I reread a few years back because daughter was reading it for school, and I think a lot is there to explore. However, I really feel we hold the novel up as something it’s really not, for the most part. That’s not what you’re doing.
What bothers me is the cultural currency it carries. I think we need to be able, if we use it in the classroom, to read those silences and dropped moments in the narrative. I really think we need to have students think a lot more about Boo Radley and the opening of the novel too.
